Don’t leave the dock without this
Sailing in SF Bay or anywhere you’re going to want this app

Crew of the Watoosh Review
We are enjoying the App as we cruise the Lessor Antilles. Recommend it to other Cruisers.
Works Great!
Especially like the anchor alarm. I like that it now feeds AIS info into my Navionics Boating App
New user
Loaded this app since the boat I am on doesn’t have a functioning AIS, and we are doing a night sail in Florida waters and was concerned about safe. It help with a near mis of a pleasure craft heading our way. Works great as long as you have cell service!!!! Maybe a next enhancement for the developers, a way to be functional when cell is not available. For costal it is a good lower cost option than a full transceiver AIS.
Crashtastic…
The app seems to crash every time I pan, or try to look at anything in settings etc.
Will not open anymore; not happy about it since I paid for it!
My Boat Beacon app will not open. It crashes EVERY TIME I try to open it. Please help, or provide an update patch for it. Thank you!
Nope doesn’t work trash wasted 15$
Doesn’t work at all 0 boats displayed
Fantastic
LOVE this app. I use it while sailing so friends and family can track my activity. We also used it on a circumnavigation to track our fleet. So easy to use and very stable and reliable. Can’t recommend it enough.
Works great on 1 IPad sitting down on second iPad
Can’t get it to work on second IPad nor won’t let me pay for a second app and yearly service. I’m using IPads to navigate the Great Loop. Any ideas?
Can’t add charts
I used my Apple pw to purchase the app, but when I try to add charts, it requires my pw again (why?!) and rejects the same pew
Still broken
Left a 2 star review a week ago... text editing your boat details are still broken. I have the latest iphone max and the edit page only accepts 1 letter for things like the boat name. Please fix this app.
Good App but crashes when I hit the location….
…it takes several tries before it comes back on. There is a bug with the app.
Doesn’t show ships “out of the box”
Got the app. Set up my boat info while sitting in an anchorage with two boats with AIS on. We do have AIS on our boat but we don’t see the names of boats with newer AIS boxes. Neither boat have this app but they do have AIS. And neither boat showed up. Have yet to see ANY boats show up on the app. And, yes, I have good wifi. Also, I upgraded (obviously too soon) to “live view” on my iPad but the app on my iPhone is asking me to pay for it again. I’ve contacted the company. I’ll update the review when/if I hear from them.
Now works with Navionics!
Boat Beacon can now overlay AIS data on top of Navionics Navigation app. That’s a game changer.
Love this app
I am always looking for freighters throwing huge wakes but now that I have boat beacon I have great visibility and information of them. Very happy for this app!
Good program
It’s nice to it’s nice to
Love this app!
Navigation, plotting, MarineTraffic data, anchor alarms, man overboard alert, this unit does it all, love it on my iPhone and iPad, and very reasonably priced! I’m a believer!
Have to pay for AIS share
Paid for app to use AIS Share functionality with Navionics. After installing, was disappointed to discover AIS Share required a monthly/annual subscription. This was not clear in app info pre purchase. Also, not clear why a subscription would be needed to share data already available in app with Navionics. This was a big (only) selling point. Very disappointing.
Great app!
We use Boat Beacon all the time to track boat traffic on the Chesapeake Bay, even for our our boat sometimes! The visuals are easy to read and the site easy to navigate. It’s wonderful being able to easily see where other boats are on the water. Also, customer service was terrific....quick response and appropriate and easy fix the one time I ever had an issue. Highly recommended!
Great app and customer service
Been using this app for a while and it’s great for route planning and a back up chart plotter. Had an issue with the AIS transponder and the guys worked with me until the problem was resolved. Great value for the money and the addition of windy weather integration is pretty nice as well.
Awesome
This is a useful app. If you don’t have AIS budget, get this.
Boat Beacon
I am a commercial fisherman in California an have 40’ state of the art fiberglass troller/crabber. I have 10s of thousands of dollars of navigation equipment onboard - I pretty much use none of it - Boat Beacon pretty much makes all that stuff obsolete for an obscenely low price. I can see where the competition is fishing complete with their track lines any where any time. Customer service is outstanding - email them and they get right back to you. Boat Beacon simply is the best!
No iPhone X native resolution
Seems last optimized for iPhone 4 or similar
Hard to see my boat on a map
Thank you
Superb customer service
I contacted the supplier with a problem. Response was within a day. Problem was fixed!!!!
Boat Beacon
I was not receiving any Ship information in the Eastport Me area, I connected Boat Beacon and they resolved the problem, I am retired Coast Guard and enjoy tracking Ships, Thank You Boat Beacon (Steve) Ben C
Sketchy!
When I first purchased this app, it included charts. The charts were later removed and the company wants to sell the NOAA charts to me again for me to have access. I emailed them to ask if it was a mistake and they didn’t respond. I don’t trust these guys and there are plenty of other good apps available.
Excellent
A great APP. Very reliable. Works very well on iPad and iPhone. Wonderful customer service. Questions are answered the same day. Highly recommend.
From 5 stars to 1
This app used be great but now there are all these phantom ships that never disappear. The app is completely useless there's no way to know what vessels are in real time and what are days old. Bummer
Great Customer Service
Everyone without AIS should have this app. Recently I has a small problem and Customer service was very responsive. We now have AIS, but I use BB to track friends who don't transmit on AIS. I wish everyone had it!
Waste of money
Does not work, other boat positions are not accurate, other boats do not pick up your position or name at all!
Recent update
Used all the time. Now I don't like the update. Makes it difficult to see boats coming in etc
Ok but not reliable
Works part time. It will just drop a boat off the screen when I know it's still there, because I am looking at it.
Really like this
I really like the AIS portion of this and being able to see info on other boats. I always share my location with someone on land. The resulting tracks are disappointing as it ends up showing tracks over land as if it wasn't near accurate but I haven't seen my position in the app be off.
Love this App
I work on the river and use it daily . Can't believe the tech these days . It's a pocket AIS . Very good app for navigation on the water .
Valuable navigation aid
I find this app very valuable to keep track of commercial ships coming in and out of Tampa Bay. Added benefit is that I can broadcast the location of our boat. Good for safety and connecting with friends.
Captain
This app is useless !! Don't bother
Disappointing
Went through Suisun bay and Carquinez Straits. Vessel AIS showed five ships and more than six tugs. This app showed nothing.
Captain
This app is 100% useless it shows just a small number of AIS equipped vessels in any given area. Do not wast your time with this app
Boat Beacon
Works best on iPad 3 with cellular/wifi as this iPad 3G has a GPS assisted capability whether connected or not to a cellular network. IPad 2 wifi (no cellular) dees NOT have a GPS Satellite Receiver in them so you would need to add a GPS receiver to an iPad 2. I tried using a Verizon Hot Spot Cellular with iPad 2 and neither worked, nor did Apple Maps or Google Maps. There are no cellular towers in the middle of Lake Michigan, so the triangulated cellular cannot function on a iPad 2. You end up sliding along the shoreline and never go out into the Lake. The same problem happens with Apple Maps and Google on an iPad 2 with wifi. Apple Tech Support acknowledges that they are having problems with Apple Maps and today acknowledged issues reported with SeaNav and BoatBeacon, both sold through their AppStore because of the lack of a GPS receiver in the iPad. I took back my iPad2 wifi and picked up a iPad 3G which allows SeaNav & Boat Beacon to work out on the water. The Technical Support and Management at SeaNav/Boat Beacon provided excellent support and personal attention to my concerns and answered all my help requests. A+
Boat Beacon
Great program. Shows boats anchored and moving around in Los Angeles and Long Beach harbors. Also use it on cruise ships to see who's around us.
AIS on Every Boat! by the Sloop Captain
This is a brilliant App for AIS that identifies your vessel and the other craft out there without a lot of additional electronic hardware. As long as the user has a good cellular signal AIS equipped ships and boats in your area are identified in almost realtime. And, they can identify your vessel. It makes radioing a fast moving ship by name easy if you have to. Sailing in busy shipping areas, fog, or darkness is now much safer. Well done!
Why can't it find its bearings?
A very good application, useful for planning an extended trip. But, everytime the app is opened, I must spend a lot of time waving my iPad around to eliminate the irritating "compass interference" warning. The iPad can't be that bad in finding headings, and no other app dependent on heading gives me this type of notice.
This is an incredible ap!
It works so well for something that costs $10! I just spent about $100k on electronics and this ap and a couple others rival my expensive electronics!?! These guys and an iPad will put all of the rip-off marine electronics guys out of business. The more people that use it, the better it will be. Every boat should have to register! See and be seen! Also, customer service responded to email questions in minutes!
Not what I was thinking
Not what I was looking for. Is it possible to get refund.
Great app
This app is well integrated with the nav apps of this provider, and provides email notifications that other appa require an annual subscription.
Works well on old WiFi iPad
I use this on a first generation WiFi only iPad. For GPS position data I use a Dual Electronics Bluetooth GPS. For Internet I use a Verizon 4G personal hot spot. This combination works well. On a recent cruise I saw excellent correlation between the displayed position and visual siting of a car carrier and the tug assisting it out of port. I look forward to using the group features.
